‘Controlling
Our Tongue.’
James
3:1-12.
a) James 3:1. We should realise that Bible
Teachers have a big responsibility as t what they teach.
b) James 3:2. If we do not make mistakes in what
we say then we are perfect and able to control our whole being.
c) James 3:3-4. Think of how horses and ships are
controlled.
d) James 3:5. The tongue is very small and yet it
can be boastful and start a fire.
e) James 3:6. The tongue is like a spreading fire
and has the potential to spread evil.
f) James 5:7. Man is able to tame:-
1- Wild animals.
2- Birds.
3- Reptiles.
4- Fish.
g) James 5:8. No one can perfectly tame the
tongue. It is:-
1- Evil.
2- Uncontrollable.
3- Full of deadly poison.
h) James 5:9. We use our tongue to give thanks to
God but also to curse man who is made in the likeness of God.
i) James 5:10. It should not be that words of
thanksgiving and cursing come out of the same mouth.
j) James 5:11. A fountain cannot pour out sweet
and bitter water.
k) James 5:12. Three realities:-
1-A
fig tree cannot bear olives.
2-A
grapevine cannot bear figs.
3-A
salty spring cannot produce sweet water.
(This
QT clearly calls me to be Controlling My Tongue)
‘Words
Of Comfort For Paul.’
Acts
18:9-10.
a) The Lord spoke to Paul in a vision by night.
b) The Lord told him not to be afraid.
c) The Lord told him to keep on speaking.
d) The Lord told him not to give up.
e) The Lord told him that He was with him.
f) The Lord told him that no one would be able to
harm him.
g) The Lord told him that there were many of God’s
People in the City.
(This Second one
really comforts me: Words Of Comfort For Paul)
Chris.
One of the things that the Lord
told Paul was that there were many of God’s People in the City. Loneliness can
be so disheartening! Even though we are not alone sometimes we feel alone and
misunderstood or alone and rejected. These feelings can be quite damaging for
our emotions. It is at these low times that we really need to know what God,
and not our feelings, is saying to us.
