a) If anyone thinks that they are religious.
b) James 3:10. Although they do not bridle their
tongue.
c) They deceive themselves.
d) Their religion is worthless.

‘People Who Use People Are No Good.’
1 Kings 2:13-25.
a) 1 Kings 2:13. Adonijah returned to the scene
with a scheme. He said to Bathsheba that he was coming in Peace.
b) 1 Kings 2:14. Adonijah wanted to have “a word”
with Bathsheba and she gave him permission to speak.
c) 1 Kings 2:15. Adonijah reminded Bathsheba of
the recent happenings. How the people all wanted him to be king, but God
intervened and Solomon was appointed king.
d) 1 Kings 2:16. Adonijah asked Bathsheba if he
could make a special request of her. She gave him permission to ask.
e) 1 Kings 2:17. Adonijah wanted Bathsheba to ask
Solomon if he would give him Abishag to be his wife.
f)
1 Kings 2:18. Bathsheba
agreed to do this.
g) 1 Kings 2:19. Bathsheba came to speak to
Solomon and he really honoured her and treated her well. A throne was put for
her on Solomon’s right hand side.
h) 1 Kings 2:20. Bathsheba said that she had one ‘small
request’ to make of Solomon. He encouraged her to ask and said that he would
not refuse her.
i)
1 Kings 2:21. She asked
Solomon that he would allow Abishag to marry Adonijah. (Here is a case of
people using people)
j)
1 Kings 2:22. Solomon was
upset and asked Bathsheba why she was asking for Adonijah. (This case could
cause even more division in the family)
k) 1 Kings 2:23-24. Then Solomon swore by the
Lord that Adonijah would lose his life because of what he had done.

1 Kings 2:25. Solomon had
Adonijah killed.

It was obvious
that Solomon respected his mother Bathsheba very much. He never wanted to
refuse her anything she asked him for. That is a very lovely relationship. The
relationship was temporarily hindered by Adonijah using Bathsheba! That is what
happens when people use other people for their own purposes, all kinds of
relationship problems and confusion comes in.
