Chris.
Before we can truly Praise God, whether privately, or in the congregation, we need to be free from all blood guiltiness. Our praises mean nothing to God if our hearts retain negative and destructive thoughts and feelings toward other people. David prayed and wrote often about his heart, he wanted a pure heart before God. I am sure that the Lord desires us, if necessary, to pray this kind of prayer, too, when we need to.
Some of us are "heroes", it means that we hide all of our pains and "issues" in our hearts and tell them to no one. Actually, we need to do what the Bible encourages us to do, that is to pour out our hearts before the Lord. This is not 'at the Lord', that is very wrong - it is sin! This is 'before the Lord', we empty our hearts of all the negative things inside in front of Him in prayer and let Him begin to restore our hearts.
If we hide our issues in our hearts, it is easy for us to become bitter or cynical and that is really wrong, not pleasing to God at all. And if we really want to live a life that is pleasing to God we need first to have a clean and free heart.
