Chris.
The amount of servants that a person had in Bible days revealed the wealth of that person. Abimelech had many male and female servants. When he was "putting it right" with Abraham he gave much to him. A part of what he gave were some of his servants, both male and female. This was a real sacrifice, a genuine desire, for restoration. He did not just want to say "sorry"!
There are some times that, when the need to apologize and restore a relationship arises, we need to do more than just say "sorry". The times that I am writing about here are times when, maybe, we need to make some kind of restoration. If the offended person, the one against whom we have sinned, tells us genuinely that there is no need for us to make restoration, then we are free. (Maybe we can simply give them some kind of gift, when, and if, it is appropriate.)
To offend someone, to sin against them, or to abuse their kindness or generosity, is something that we need to take some genuine action about. If we do not, we wound people and maybe our wounding of people can actually become a pattern in our life.
We need to consider our ways, confess our sins to God, and, IF POSSIBLE, restore relationships with people that we have offended. If we are True Believers, these actions of restoration should be a normal part of our life of Faith - our daily 'Walk with God'.
