Jeremiah 4:17-18. 
a)  The enemies closed around Jerusalem. 
b)  Like the Keepers of a Field. 
c)  Because Jerusalem had rebelled against the Lord. 
d)  This was the Word of the Lord. 
e)  The ways and doings of Jerusalem had brought this upon themselves. 
f)  This was their doom.
g)  How bitter it was. 
h)  It reached the very heart of Jerusalem.

a)  This is something that Timothy needed to know. 
b)  People need to heed their conscience. 
c)  If people do not heed their conscience, they ruin and 'make shipwreck' of their Faith.
d)  Hymenaeus and Alexander had done this. 
e)  Apostle Paul turned them over to Satan. 
f)  So that they would learn not to blaspheme.

The enemies closed around Jerusalem. There is a vast difference between being defeated and almost being defeated. For many years Jerusalem has been threatened by various enemies and Nations and yet it still stands today as a prosperous city and an international city where people go to learn and tour. This has to be a Testimony of the Goodness of God.
